Fuel gauge scare

My family and I recently did a road trip with our 2022 Acadia AT4, and on our way to Ashville, NC, we had a real scare with the fuel gauge because the distance-to-empty reading was way off. We were cruising on I-40 with the AC blasting due to probably a heat wave, and I swear the miles-to-empty was dropping faster than our actual speed. I was sweating bullets for the last 30 miles. Pulled into a gas station in Cookeville, TN, with only a few miles left on the dash and managed to pump 22.1 gallons into what's supposed to be a 21.7-gallon tank. Anyone else had the same experience? It's pretty unnerving, especially on a long haul in the middle of nowhere.

You're not alone in noticing that the Acadia's distance-to-empty readings can be inconsistent. The 2022 AT4 trim has a 21.7-gallon fuel tank, but sometimes you can squeeze in a bit more fuel depending on how the pump nozzle is angled and how much you top off. If you see the miles-to-empty number drop faster than expected, it's usually because the system bases that number on your recent driving.

For example, using the AC frequently during a heat wave or driving uphill can cause the system to display fewer miles left, as you're using more fuel. The number isn't fixed and can change significantly depending on how you drive, the road conditions, and the features you're using. Did you notice any big changes in the terrain or were you in manual mode? This might explain why the range dropped and the system updated so quickly.
